Meet Ace, an incredibly sweet cat who was rescued as a stray kitten from the streets. Unfortunately, he lost one of his eyes due to an infection. For this reason, he is a bit different and often misunderstood by some new folks he meets. Nobody wants to play with him, adults often hesitant to greet him, and children can find him scary.
“He can sometimes seem scary, especially to children,” Norma Maikovich, Ace’s owner, told The Dodo. “People are often hesitant to greet him.”
Despite losing one eye, Ace is very adventurous and isn’t afraid of anything. He loves to spend his days lounging on the porch out front, watching the world go by. “He never strays further than that, and he’s happy and content with this.”
Recently, Maikovich set up a home security camera to keep tabs on him and it was such a surprise when they caught a little boy playing with Ace on the security camera.
“When looking at the footage, we noticed one particular boy tends to visit almost every single day,” Maikovich said.
The neighbor boy takes time out of his routine almost daily to visit and play with the “scary” cat. It melted the owners’ hearts, and Ace clearly adores him for it.
Here’s the video of Ace and his friend:
After checking the video, they realized that the boy felt he had to be sneaky in his visits, so they informed him that he’s welcome anytime. The boy was so happy to hear that and now he can visit and pet Ace every day without sneaking.

Maikovich and her family were touched to know that Ace had a good friend from the neighborhood. “It melted our hearts, not just seeing how much Ace loves this boy, but how familiar they were to each other!” she said. “Sitting by the front door, as soon as Ace sees his friend, he rushes out to greet him. It’s awesome, this bond they share.”
“Ace isn’t a scary guy, and it just goes to show that appearances aren’t everything,” Maikovich said. “Seeing the footage of Ace and his buddy really proves that when given the chance of life and love and a family, animals with special needs and handicaps are worth it too.”
