A cat who went missing eight years ago has been reunited with her owner after she was identified with the help of a microchip.
“Ally” the cat was recently found in Maroochydore on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast and taken into the care of a local pet refuge.
A scan of the feline’s microchip enabled her carers to identify and contact owner Krista Abbott in Wollongong – more than 1130 kilometres away.
Ms Abbott, who was a teen when Ally – then a kitten – failed to come home one night, said the call left her in a state of total shock.
“It was beside myself, I couldn’t believe it,” she told 9NEWS following their reunion earlier this week.
In the intervening years, the former Cotton Tree resident had married, had two children and moved to New South Wales.
Ms Abbott said she’d believed cat had died. While it is not known where Ally was all these years, Ms Abbott said she is only too happy to have her home.
